Yoshimitsu Banno, director of possibly the most divisive Godzilla movie ever, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster, died at the age of 86 this past weekend. With his passing, the last of the Showa-era directors have left us. Truly the end of an era.

Rest well.

Wasn't Banno a consultant of some sort for Shin Godzilla or the better American version of big G? There is a very, very good chance I am mistaking my Bannos.

Nevertheless, thanks for a truly one-of-a-kind Godzilla experience, Mr. Banno. Unlike Rodan, Ghidora, Megalon, or even Gigan, the first time I saw Hedorah fly over a crowd and the stinging pollutants forcing those fleeing to fall to the ground choking, I was unnerved by your slime monster.

He was one of the producers (or executive producers) of the Legendary Godzilla, mainly because that Project sort of grew out of his original idea for the IMAX Godzilla movie, which was meant to be his long-awaited sequel to Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster.

Thanks HMan. And to further clarify, I was in no way inferring that Legendary Godzilla was "better than" Shin as they were so dissimilar that there really is no grounds for comparison. Furthermore, in my mind, they were both good.

I just meant Legendary better than GINO.

This feels like a personal disaster.

The man was a Visionary Director.

More "Visionary" than the current crop of directors trying to pass themselves off as legit.
