Someone told me about a B-movie she saw part of that was nothing but music for the first half hour. It showed nothing but a guy walking alone in the desert, and she said you would expect to hear old-timey country music over the scene, but instead it was like the kind of music she associates with silent films.

She couldn't describe the man walking in the desert. She was pretty pickled when she saw this, I gather. She said they left before anything else happened in the movie.

All I could think of that remotely fit the description was The Beast of Yucca Flats or -- if her sense of time was sufficiently distorted by the pickle juice -- certain scenes in Six String Samurai. But the music doesn't fit either one, really. And both those guys are so distinctive-looking -- Tor Johnson or a post-apocalyptic Buddy Holly -- I thought it unlikely that it was either one.

Any thoughts?

My knee jerk reaction is the same as yours, Cliffie. Beast of Yucca Flats.

And I can't remember the music from that movie. I'll have to see if I can pop it in the player.

You Tube has about three or four different submissions of the entire feature.

The mystery deepens. She now tells me the movie was in color. Can you imagine anyone bothering to colorize The Beast From Yucca Flats?

I haven't watched nearly enough of them even to hazard a guess as to which it might be, but that first paragraph of yours positively screams "Spaghetti Western."

Heh, that reminds me of Ken Begg's befuddlement at the digitally-remastered, pristine print of A*P*E when that came out on DVD.

Less surprising, but I actually own a colorized version of the Ed Wood opus Bride of the Monster.

Proving that people will stoop to anything. Why not this, too?

I am thinking of the walking in the desert scene in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Which should totally be remade as a giant monster movie.

But spaghetti-Western guitar is not my idea of silent-picture music! Of course, the party who told me this had not yet even heard of the Red Elvises so Scrod knows what she understands about music...

For The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Rodan might be a happy addition...
