Since the Toot Your Own Horn thread is over, I thought I would start the next one. This is the first time I have been able to do that here!

Anyway, my Bakery was nominated for several categories in the Best of Southern Minnesota contest.

- Best Bakery
- Best Dessert
- Best Donut
- Best Cupcake
- Best Treat to bring to the Office

I'm pretty excited since this is our first year in business and it is a nice follow-up to be nominated as the top 10 Cupcakes in Minnesota. You can vote for The Perfect Day Cakes here if you want: http://northfieldnews.secondstreetapp.c ... s-Choice-7

So, what's going on with you?

Nice work!

What is the speciality of the house at your bakery?

I would vote, but I don't want to register, Easy E. Nevertheless, congratulations on the recognition. You're getting noticed....by the way, do your bakery items employ lard? There's a longstanding bakery in Lexington, Kentucky called Spalding's. Deadly but perfectly delicious donuts and breads and sweet cakes...

I unlocked two achievements last Sunday: I saw my first humpback whale, and I ran out of space on a terabyte hard drive.

I also got good photos of tufted puffins and two different kinds of albatross. Plus more stuff that I'm still sorting out.

{edit} rats, those links don't work right on mobile.

Those photgraphs are magnificent. Worthy of National Geographic.

Gawrsh, thanks.

I do think the laysan's albatross (the one with the white head) might be worth printing large.

Pretty cool stuff!

I always have wanted to see a whale in the wild. It's kind of tough in the Midwest. As far as I know, the closest thing I will be able to find is....

Pepie the Lake Pepin Monster....

We are known for:
Maple Bacon Long John
Salted Caramel Cupcake (and cupcakes in general)
Cinnamon Twist Bread
Sticky Buns

Also, thanks for everyone's support.

I really need to make that reptile zoo trip happen soon so I can have a maple bacon long john or six.

I have to assume this isn't a pair of full-length underpants soaked in syrup and sprinkled with bacon bits, so perhaps someone more knowledgeable about regional breakfast-food terminology can describe it for me?

You might know it better as an eclair. (In bakeries where pastries of both names are sold, eclairs generally have filling, long johns don't.)

It is an oblong, raised yeast doughnut with maple flavored icing on top, with a piece of applewood bacon across the top, drizzled in chocolate and dusted with sea salt. We don't make it everyday, in fact everyday is usually somethign different; so you never really know what we have until you show up. :)

Also, I know the owners of the Reptile Zoo. Their daughter did an adorable Science Fair project where she timed the speed of a few different types of turtles to see who was the fastest. It was pretty cute to see the pictures and videos of the "races".
